Welcome to the DCCollectors collection spotlight, where we showcase one of your DC-themed collections! Whether it is a fan just starting out with a small collection, to some of the largest collections in the world, there is always something you can learn from looking at other’s collections. You might find a new way to display something, or maybe even see something you did not know existed!
Today’s focus is on the collection of Alex Padeo. I first met Alex on the Facebook group, DC Universe Classics Collectors. Alex is a DC Universe Classics/DC Multiverse super fan. From the looks of his collection below, he has just about every figure made in both lines to this point. His passion for these action figures is incredible, and it shows in this excellent collection!

DCCollectors: How did you get into collecting DC toys and what was your first DC toy/collectible?
Alex Padeo: My father has liked comic books since he was a child. Since I have always spent a lot of time reading and buying the DC animated series or movies (like Batman: The Animated Series or Justice League Unlimited). Due to this, from a very young age, I was interested in DC super-heroes. The first DC Comics figure that my father and I purchased was the Martian Manhunter detective from the Batman: Brave and the Bold series, and from that moment on our collection started. Of course the DC Universe Classics line is our favorite.
DCCollectors: How many pieces are in your collection?
Alex Padeo: I currently have 315 pieces that are mostly Mattel figures (DC Universe Classics and DC Multiverse.)
DCCollectors: If you could only choose one item to keep, which one would it be?
Alex Padeo: It is very difficult to think of a single figure to keep among them all, but the Lobo figure, exclusive to San Diego Comic-Con, is one of my favorites, due to the time that it cost me to get it complete. It took me two years to find Lobo’s Dawg, after getting the base figure.
DCCollectors: What is the one item that you really want to add to your collection?
Alex Padeo: I feel that my collection will never be complete, Mattel is releasing new figures each year that interest me, but I would love to have a figure that is quite difficult to get at good price in my country. That figure is Bane.
On the other hand, I’m still waiting for Mattel to make a figure of Vandal Savage and The Ventriloquist. PLEASE MATTEL THOSE CHARACTERS ARE GREAT!!
DCCollectors: What piece of advice do you have for those just starting their collections?
Alex Padeo: I would say that each year the figures of this collection in particular, get more rare to find and likewise increase in price. You must not despair, but with much patience, expect to wait it out and find these at the possible prices.
DCCollectors: Do you have an interesting story regarding the collection, such as meeting someone famous while shopping for your toys, or a super deal you got on something? Something along those lines.
Alex Padeo: Each figure in my collection has a particular story, some more interesting than others. To start, use your mobile phone, it is often a device that is not available to other people. This makes auctions a good option for finding figures.
