SPOTLIGHT: The Collection of Clark Adams

Welcome to the DCCollectors collection spotlight, where we showcase one of your DC-themed collections! Whether it is a fan just starting out with a small collection, to some of the largest collections in the world, there is always something you can learn from looking at other’s collections. You might find a new way to display something, or maybe even see something you did not know existed!

Today’s focus is on the collection of Clark Adams. Clark is a huge Batman fan, and his collection shows it. His Batman focus has given him the ability to concentrate on the Batman family of characters and obtain some nice pieces that you do not see every day. You can definitely see his love for the caped crusader in this collection.

Check out more about Clark and his collection below!

DCCollectors: How did you get into collecting DC toys and what was your first DC toy/collectible?

Clark Adams: I used to read my older brother’s comics, that’s what started it all. Then I would buy my own. I think the first collectible I every got was from the 1989 Burton Batman film, and it was a die-cast Batmobile.

DCCollectors: How many pieces are in your collection?

Clark Adams: I don’t have an official count, but I would estimate around 5,000 pieces, plus comic books.

DCCollectors: If you could only choose one item to keep, which one would it be?

Clark Adams: That is a super tough question. I guess it would have to be a toss up between my signed 1969 LIFE magazine Adam West as Batman cover or my Christian Bale signed picture from Batman Begins. I got that one from a dealer in California.

DCCollectors: What is the one item that you really want to add to your collection?

Clark Adams: I really wish I could put my hands on a comic from the first year Batman appeared. The May 1939 Detective Comics book is just a pipe dream, but maybe the 7th or 8th one published. That would be just as cool.

DCCollectors: What piece of advice do you have for those just starting their collections?

Clark Adams: Don’t buy from one source. Scour the flea markets, garage sales, comic book shops, even antique stores. The fun is in the hunt!

DCCollectors: Do you have an interesting story regarding the collection, such as meeting someone famous while shopping for your toys, or a super deal you got on something? Something along those lines.

Clark Adams: Being in Canada, I might not get the opportunity to meet some of the celebrities that my American friends do, but I finally got to meet Adam West in Calgary in 2012 at the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo. I got there super early and was the first in line for autographs. I got him to sign my LIFE magazine (I’d had in a bag in my closet for about 8 years and only paid about $45 dollars for it). After I got it signed, and shook his hand, I turned around and was immediately interviewed by the local media as being the first person at the show to meet him! It was a good day.
