DCCollectors: How did you get into collecting DC toys and what was your first DC toy/collectible?

Natalie Quintero: Jose had been collecting already for many years. He started with comic books in Mexico, having seen the Superman “S” on a comic as a kid and wanting it. Over the years and moving to the states, he was able to find much more in the form of action figures, collectibles, books, toys, etc… I, on the other hand, didn’t have anything until we moved in together in 2014 and decided to display what he had. Collecting became a fun pastime for us and something we enjoy doing together.

DCCollectors: How many pieces are in your collection?

Natalie Quintero: Our collection encompasses so many different things, from tiny game pieces to large stuffed animals. We would have to say around 1000 pieces, possibly more.

DCCollectors: If you could only choose one item to keep, which one would it be?

Natalie Quintero: If Jose had to pick one thing, it would be his Justice League Animated Series Superman 12″ figure. For me, my Barbie as Wonder Woman doll.

DCCollectors: What is the one item that you really want to add to your collection?

Natalie Quintero: We just added the DC Comics Variant Play Arts Kai Superman and Wonder Woman figures. They are anime inspired from Japan and just beautiful!! It took months to find both. They are bigger than most figures, 10″ and AMAZING. We will display them on custom Wonder Woman and Superman shelves we are in the process of having made.

DCCollectors: What piece of advice do you have for those just starting their collections?

Natalie Quintero: Get what you love. Don’t buy it if you don’t HAVE to have it. It’s your collection, you want to enjoy looking at it. We have passed up so many good deals on things because we just weren’t into the piece. Don’t limit yourself either.

We started doing DIY projects because, we couldn’t find anything we didn’t already have in the stores. We have made Superman/Wonder Woman candlesticks, bubble gum machines, wreaths, ornaments, etc… you name it, we have it. And KEEP GOING. Before you know it, you’ll have more than you know what to do with, and sometimes forget what’s all there (trust me, it’s easy to do).

DCCollectors: Do you have an interesting story regarding the collection, such as meeting someone famous while shopping for your toys, or a super deal you got on something? Something along those lines.

Natalie Quintero: Interestingly enough, we would have to say we are a great byproduct of collecting. As Superman and Wonder Woman are a couple in different earths, we collect them as a couple. As you will see in most of our pictures, they are together in everything, just as we are. We have the Teen Titans and the Justice League in several places, but generally only collect them as a couple. In fact, Jose was the one who told me when we were dating they were a couple. I had said something like, you really like Superman right? I have ALWAYS loved Wonder Woman. She’s my hero, to which he replied, “You know they’re together, right??” The rest is history, and here we are.
